“As an avid water drinker, I was attracted to this project because of the potential it has to save water and to enhance efficiency in the indoor farming industry. I am also passionate about mitigating waste whenever possible, so this project gives me an opportunity to be involved in something bigger than myself.”

"As an ENVS student, focusing on urban and regional governance, I think it would be beneficial for the project to know about the government regulations and jurisdictions that are involved in water and land use. This project is also a great platform to explore and educate others about these regulations and call for improvements. I am excited to work on this project because I am passionate about sustainability, and I feel that this team feels the same way about it."

“I understand that the farming industry is very water-intensive and that can be problematic. Being able to work with a company that values optimizing water usage excites me for the future of this industry. In particular, I like that this project focuses not on improving the water use patterns of developing countries, but on keeping developed countries accountable for their actions. I firmly believe that as a general rule, we should focus on our own shortcomings before placing blame on other countries.”

“Recently I have had some health concerns, I had issues with my liver and cholesterol levels. My health problems were primarily caused by bad diet which was comprised of highly processed and unhealthy foods. This project would help and promote micro farming of more healthier and fresh foods. Having realised how important a healthy diet is, I’m very passionate towards this project. ”

“As an Engineer I believe that we have to consider the environment when we think about solutions. Working with a company that cares about the environment will help me think of solutions for future projects that are also eco-friendly. I look forward to working with this team, I would not work on this project without my team to support me. I want to be able to enjoy working with my team and enjoy the project I am working on. With both going hand in hand I believe I will enjoy this course.”

Maira Zafar

“A passion for sustainability and a desire to work on problems pertaining to climate change are what attracted me to engineering in the first place. This project resonates with me because I know traditional agriculture is water and carbon intensive, and I’d love to be able to work on a part of such a complex social and technical problem. I love cooking, and I’ve always wanted to grow my own food, so I was naturally drawn to the concept of urban farms in this project on that level as well!”

Mark Wilson

“This project is important because the current agricultural industry is massively inefficient with precious resources. With these precious resources like freshwater becoming increasingly rare, to sustain life across the globe it is becoming a necessity for the industry to become the next hot spot for technological innovation.”

“With my background in photography and film, it attracted me to this project because I feel that my abilities can be proved useful in helping the average person understand out project, allowing our audience to be able to digest the content better. ”

"Regarding the growing concerns for climate change, a growing population, food security, sustainable access to food, and the dwindling of resources, I find it relevant to consider the possibility of urban agriculture (UA), and in particular sustainable urban food growing initiatives. This project will broaden my perspectives on how cities can efficiently feed cities."

team capacity

Our team contains a diverse set of passionate individuals with various strengths and weaknesses.  These relationships have come together in a positive way, creating a team that collectively has a diverse perspective while being respectful of each member.

A good indication of the diversity of this group is the personal connection everyone has made to this project. No two members are looking at this project with the exact same lens. These motivations will bring different strengths and roles to this project at its various stages. In an effort to gain more experience and learn new things, we intend on having flexible roles within the team. As such, we expect our roles within the team to fluctuate and alter as the project proceeds and its needs change - we do, however, have an idea of potential roles we may play in the project.
